February 10, 2002 David Grant Resigns From Journeymen

 

David Grant, long-time bass singer for The Journeymen, has resigned his position with the quartet.  After much prayer and seeking God's will, Dave decided over Christmas break that this was the time for him to come off the road to spend more time with his family and to pursue other opportunities.

David has literally grown up being  a part of the group.  He sang bass with the quartet for 14 years.  Prior to that time, he travelled with the group playing drums and running sound.  As you can imagine, Dave's decision to leave the group was one made with great care for both himself and the well-being of the group.

"I feel that I will never really 'leave' the group," says David.  "My role with the group merely changed on February 10th from bass singer to number one fan." 

"Dave's departure from the group is the perfect example of how a personnel change should happen in a gospel quartet," says Stacey Murphy.  "As we walk through life, each individual has to listen to God to know when the time is right to make a change.  Dave has done exactly that in deciding that this is the time for him to put his energies in other areas.  Although personnel changes are inevitable, the whole group senses Dave's peace about this decision.  We love and support Dave fully as he starts this new chapter in life," says Murphy.

Ironically, Dave's final concert with the group is at Sellersburg First Baptist; the same church where he and his wife Holly first met in 1997 and were subsequently engaged at the close of a concert in 1998.

Please pray for both Dave and the quartet during this time of transition.  God's hand is evident to each of us as He works His plan out in our lives.  We trust Him fully as we begin this new chapter.

Be sure to look for Dave to join the group at major events, such as the National Quartet Convention.  Dave is also making plans to travel with the group to some selected dates over the course of 2002.
